• Phyllis Ritchie, NAMI Elk Grove/Schaumburg treasurer and Family Support Group facilitator, will retire this month after 20 years of volunteer service to NAMI and the community.

• The Streamwood Chamber of Commerce announced its 2010 executive board. During a special directors' meeting Patrick McKernan, Capital Telecom, Inc., was elected president; Nancy Roach, Ameriprise Financial Services, vice president; Christine Pappin, Cruises, Inc., treasurer; and Dianne Dedick, Mary Kay Cosmetics, secretary.

• Wheeling High School inducted Bill Daletski, a former Wheeling High School administrator; Marilyn Kent, Wheeling High School staff member; Sandy Rainey-Ernst, Class of 1978; and Olympian Jorge Torres, Class of 1999, to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame: The inductees will be honored Saturday, Jan. 23, during halftime of the boys' home basketball game vs. John Hersey High School. A reception will be held in the cafeteria following the game.

• Schaumburg native Joe Kusek was selected the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) writer of the year for 2009. The PRCA is the governing body of professional rodeo.

He is a graduate of Schaumburg High School, Harper College and Northern Illinois University. Kusek, who was a part-time sports writer for the Daily Herald 1978-1983, is currently a sports writer/columnist for the Billings Gazette in Montana. He also writes for numerous rodeo publications concerning women's rodeo and the Professional Bull Riders.
