No injuries in Hoffman Estates townhouse fire

No one was injured in a fire discovered on the first floor of a Hoffman Estates townhouse Friday morning, said officials.

A maintenance man called the Hoffman Estates Fire Department to report a fire inside the thee-story building on the 2100 block of Graystone place at 10:50 a.m., fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from the second- and third-floor windows and flames on the first floor, said authorities.

The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes but caused approximately $200,000 in structure and property damage, officials said. They added that no occupants were inside the building, which is currently uninhabitable. The American Red Cross helped relocated the residents temporarily.

The cause is under investigation, authorities said. The Hoffman Estates Fire Department was assisted at the scene by firefighters from Streamwood and Schaumburg.
