St. Charles teens charged in west-side burglaries

Two St. Charles teens were arrested early Wednesday on charges they burglarized seven vehicles on the city's west side.

Police said 17-year-olds Jeremy A. Almodovar and Benjamin C. Audet, both of the 1600 block of Indiana Street, were wearing two of the stolen items and carrying the rest in bags when they were stopped at 4:45 a.m. while walking on the 1700 block of Howard Street.

Officers were responding to a report of two men standing near parked cars along Oak Street and Walnut Drive when they located the men carrying bags of loose change, earphones, cologne and a car stereo, among other items. Authorities said they also were wearing jackets later determined to have been stolen.

Both were charged with seven counts of burglary, a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

As of Wednesday afternoon, they were being held in the Kane County jail on $35,000 bond. They're scheduled to appear in court Jan. 29 in front of Judge James C. Hallock.
