Maggie Daley returns home from hospital

A spokeswoman for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley says first lady Maggie Daley has returned home after being treated for flulike symptoms at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Mayoral spokeswoman Jacquelyn Heard said Maggie Daley left the hospital early Tuesday evening.

The mayor canceled two public appearances Tuesday after his wife began feeling ill and went to the hospital.

The 66-year-old Maggie Daley was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in June 2002.

Last month, Maggie Daley was confined to a wheelchair during radiation treatment for a malignant tumor in her right leg. Her doctors described it as a temporary disability aimed at minimizing the risk of a leg fracture and to control her discomfort.
