Cary man charged with 104 counts of possession child porn

A Cary man already jailed for failing to register with local police as a sex offender is facing 104 new felony charges alleging he had dozens of images and videos of child pornography on his computer.

Christopher K. Brown, 34, of the 0-100 block of Bright Oaks Circle, could be sentenced to between two and five years in prison if found guilty of any one of the 104 possession of child pornography charges filed in a criminal complaint Friday at the McHenry County courthouse.

Brown has been in custody at the county jail since Oct. 30, when police arrested him on a charge of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, also Class 3 felony punishable by two to five years in prison.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Ed Synek said that arrest led to the child pornography investigation.

"Investigators were able to obtain information that led them to believe something more might be going on," Synek said. "They obtained a search warrant, seized his computer and sent it in for a forensic exam."

According to Indiana state records, Brown was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in July 2006. He received a 5-year prison sentence and was paroled in March, records state.

Brown, now jailed on a total of $80,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on the failure to register charge and Jan. 28 on the child pornography charges.
