Two Geneva businesses, Wiggle Waggles Organic Pet Barkery, Bistro & Boutique and EvenFlow Music & Spirits, have teamed up to host a fundraiser to benefit Anderson Animal Shelter of South Elgin. "For the Love of Dogs" will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at EvenFlow Music & Spirits, 302 W. State St., Geneva. Katie Keup, operational manager of Wiggle Waggles, will lock herself in a dog cage as part of the fundraiser's lineup of attractions. If she can raise at least $750, she will be freed from the cage; and anyone who wants to put her back in the cage for the rest of the night will have to boost the sum to $1,000. Her idea for the fundraiser comes from her commitment to fostering kindness toward animals.

"People don't know how it feels to live in a cage. It's hard for a dog to be in a cage for a long time. They need good, loving homes. I'm doing this because I want to raise awareness in a fun way and help the shelter," she said.

Other highlights of the evening include live music by Flanl, raffle prizes such as Wiggle Waggle products and services, as well as several prizes from other local businesses. Raffle tickets can be purchased throughout the night at a cost of $2, three for $5 or seven for $10. Although there is no cover fee for the night, a suggested $5 per person donation will be taken at the door; and in return, donors will receive free Wiggle Waggles homemade dog biscuits. It is open to all ages until 9 p.m., when featured band, Flanl takes the stage. After 9 p.m., patrons must be of age 21 years or older. In addition to hosting the event, EvenFlow will feature a $5 drink special on New Dogtown American pale ale made by Lagunitas Brewing Company. EvenFlow will donate 50 percent of the proceeds from the entire night's sale of New Dogtown to Anderson Animal Shelter. EvenFlow's owners, Michael Knuth and Nick Mercadante, are no strangers to philanthropic efforts. They have partnered with several charitable organizations in events like this since they opened in July 2012. "We love to support local businesses, so we are happy to partner with Wiggle Waggles to help Anderson Animal Shelter," says Nancy Brown, events coordinator at EvenFlow.
